Season Welcome – A message from the President

Dear Vikings Rugby Family

It is with great anticipation and excitement that we welcome you to the 2023 season.

In 2023, we will be celebrating 50 years of Vikings Rugby!

Its certainly a significant milestone and we have lots of celebratory events planned that I hope you can join us for, the majority I have listed below.

Reflecting on 2002, we ultimately had a very successful year winning both ACT Club Championships, all six senior teams in the finals, five of those in grand finals and four premiership winning teams with almost 100 senior players experiencing the joy of winning a hard earned premiership. We also exposed and supported dozens of our players in representative programs all the way to the Wallabies and Wallaroos.

Off field we also continued to be the leading community sports club (let alone rugby club) with our unmatched support of our members through programs and initiatives including:

– Generation Red Program

– Vikings Academy and Wider Training Group

– Modified Rugby Program

– Vikings National Wheelchair Team

– Lean on Me Wellness Program

– Charity & Community Partnerships

– Coach, Trainer and Volunteer development activities

2023 will be even bigger and busier and I encourage you to be involved with:

– 50th Year special events; Season Launch breakfast (14 April), the HUGE Red & White Ball (27 May), Hagar’s & Helga’s weekend including Friday Golf Day (28 July) and Rugby 100 club (29 July) as well as all our usually spectacular theme days at Viking Park (Ladies Day 22 April), Charity Day (for Headspace ACT, 6 May), Sponsors Day (17 June), First Nations Round (8 July) and our ever popular Sportsperson’s Lunch (30 June).

As well as these events, we will launch at the Red & White Ball (27 May), our 50 year history book, a coffee table keepsake remembering every year of our existence with detailed stories and photos from the early 1970s until now. We also have available, thanks to our esteemed apparel partners ISC, some amazing 50 year commemorative merchandise including (jackets, shirts, umbrellas, ties, pins, water bottles and heritage jumpers).

I offer all of our gratitude to our new and continuing sponsor partners (many of whom have been with us for the majority of our 50 years) and also commend all of our coaches, volunteers and support staff who I know have been working hard supporting our players prepare for the season.
