Tuggeranong Vikings 7’s v Brumbies Academy on 14.01.10
In preparation for their first 7's campaign, the Tuggeranong Vikings played a hotly contested trial match against the Brumbies Academy last night (14.01.10) at Griffith Oval. The trail was played out over four 7 minute quarters.
The first tournament that the Vikings will be playing at is the Darwin 7's which is held over the weekend of 23rd and 24th of January. It's regarded as the "hottest" 7's tournament in the world and this was part of the training program that Coach Christini has put together. "Knowing that the weather would be hot it was a good chance for the boys to have a run around and experience playing in these temperatures." Christini said.
There where of course some standout performers that have pleased the Tuggeranong Coaching staff in their first hit out. Young Sam Yakopo showed some exceptional skills and will be a pleasure to watch through out the tournaments. The experience of Tim Curran and Beau Mokotupu will be invaluable, as they will lead the younger guys around. JP Mynhardt looked to get involved at every opportunity and even managed to regather a clever chip and chase to score next to the post in the 2 quarter.
The coaching staff where pleased with the overall results and felt that it was a worthwhile exercise, and thanked the Brumbies Academy for their participation. "The game was played in good spirit, there where some great tries scored and we are looking forward to playing in Darwin" Christini said.
Needless to say, the Vikings aren't going to Darwin for a holiday. It will be all business and the players, coaching and support staff are looking forward to a successful campaign.
