Crescent Head 7’s
Continuing on from the Darwin 7's campaign, the Tuggeranong Vikings travelled the long road up to crescent heads on the far north coast of NSW for another 7's tournament. Unlike Darwin, the Vikings were the top seeded team so all eyes where going to be on them.
Their 1st game was against South West Rocks where the boys stamped them selves into the competition with a 51-0 score line.
The second game against Southern Beaches was won with a 30-0 score line
The 3rd game against Coffs Harbour the boys stretch their legs out and massed up 40 points and entered the finals with a 127 - 7 for and against record.
Their semi-final opponents Lloyd McDermott, had showed great form and skill through the day also. There where whispers in the coastal town that who ever won this game would take out the title.
In their closet game of the day, the Vikings lads played with a lot more composure and poise to win the match 28-12.
Enter the Final!!
Although quiet new to the 7's circuit, the boys where gelling and combinations where forming. Confidence was high after a great day scoring tries and conceding not many. Their opposition, from the Newcastle competition, Hamilton had a slow start to the day but where building up nicely.
Unfortunately for them, the Yakopo brothers decided to turn one on and sent the scoreboard into over drive.
Final Score 40-14.
Significant contributors for the day were Kyron Pita, now coming into form having joined the side/club from NZ. Tyrone Anderson found some outstanding tournament form to be the reliable factor throughout the day. As usual the Yakopo boys were outstanding, entertaining the crowd throughout. Tom Mataika looking to have overcome a hamstring injury lit up the venue on a couple of occasions. The team was well lead by Beau Mokotupu, who finally looked to have his public speaking issues under control during the presentations.
Next Competition for the boys in the Kiama 7's which is held on the 27th of February.
MVP for the Finals - Sam Yakopo
Top 3 try Scorers - Daniel Yakopo (7) Sam Yakopo (6) Brendon Taueki (5)
