Vikings Rugby COVID-19 Update – 18th May 2020

Dear Vikings Rugby Family

I hope you are all well and safe and have taken the ‘silver lining’ opportunity to be with your family and reflect (or at least watch Netflix) during this unprecedented time!

In terms of getting back to ‘normal’ and for us that means resuming rugby, I am pleased to say, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

What’s been happening

Like almost all other sporting organisations, we have been on pause with all community rugby frozen, Viking Park shut down, the Vikings Group of Licensed Clubs closed and our players and support staff at home in isolation. Many of our sponsor partners (and members and supporters) have been adversely affected economically by the pandemic and we empathise with these tough situations and look forward to supporting you all out of this, particularly as restrictions are eased and opportunities present.

Our three (3) rugby staff have still been working hard but with reduced days and via flexible means to keep our players updated, engaged and fit and from what I am hearing, our players have been working hard on their individual exercise programs and fitness challenges from home.

What’s going to happen

We have been given Government sign off, to resume small group non-contact fitness sessions (boot camp style) from this week.  Rest assured, our staff have worked diligently to create a boot camp training environment that is stringently COVID safe, with all possible protocols and precautions to ensure distancing, hygiene and participant safety are paramount. All going well in the world, the next stage will see a graduated return throughout June to various levels of rugby specific training and then…..(drum roll) a Club Rugby season resumed by mid-late July with almost a full season running into late October!  We will continue to work closely with Brumbies Rugby, Rugby Australia (RA), the ACT Government, our Sponsor partners and all our stakeholders to ensure a bumper 2020.

I’m sure you share my excitement at seeing our mighty Vikings in local club footy at Viking Park right through spring!

I urge you all to keep plugging away with what the government and health authorities require of us which will ultimately contribute to us sharing a beer at the Red Army during a Ladies Day, Sponsors Day or Old Boys day in the not too distant future.

For any further clarification or updates, keep an eye on our social media channels, sign up for our E-newsletter or drop us a line to rugby@vikings.com.au

Cheers
