2020 Vikings Rugby Fiji Tour

2020 Vikings Rugby Fiji Tour

Another successful Vikings Tour has drawn to a close, our 2020 Fiji Tour providing the players, support staff and sponsors alike with an unforgettable experience.

The players and support staff began their tour on Saturday the 29th of February, departing Canberra for Pacific Harbour where they spent the next 6 days. During their time in Pacific Harbour, they enjoyed an island and river cruise, rigorous training camps, team building exercises and endured a brutal fitness session on the world famous Sigatoka Sand Dunes, courtesy of former Viking Gus Anderson. The players also played thier first match of the tour against the Fiji U20s Barbarians side, who they defeated 36-26.

Following their time in Pacific Harbour, the players and support staff departed for Nadi, where they were joined by the touring sponsors for the remaining 3 days. All the players, support staff and sponsors had the opportunity to bond and get to know one another, both parties sharing a decked area at their respective resorts. It was a great experience for the sponsors who got to share a yarn and a laugh with the whole group and get to know the playing group on a more personal level.

While in Nadi, the players had their final match of the tour against Lautoka, who humbled them with a 34-5 loss. However, the effort and bravery from the Vikings players against a very physical Lautoka side was outstanding – the coaches were proud of the players for not taking a backward step. A huge shout out to the boys who were incredibly generous following the match, going above and beyond to give what they had to the Lautoka Rugby community – most giving the shirts off their back to the Lautoka team.

A tour of this magnitude cannot happen without the work of some key people:

Thank you to all of our beautiful hosts, who are now friends of the Club for life.

Thank you to all of our hard working staff, particularly Coaching Director Nick Scrivener and Touring Manager Greg Hayes, who did an outstanding job coordinating the entire playing groups itinerary.

Thank you to our Major Tour Sponsors – NCG Services, Carlton & United Breweries, Capital Maintenance Solutions and Petherbridge Roofing, and thank you to our Tour Sponsors House of Cars, Coca-Cola, Aristocrat, Aleseva Consulting, Slaven Mazda and Rolfe Classic BMW – without your support of our Tour, we wouldn’t have been able to afford our touring party this fantastic experience.

And once again thank you to our tough as nails playing group, who lead the Club from the front and make us all proud to be Vikings.

Vinaka vaka levu – we’re looking forward to the 2020 Season!
